Why add lime?
Why is it important to use Lime on your soil?
Soil has a natural tendency to become acidic which is not good for crop yields. The addition of lime helps to raise the pH levels which in turn increases herbicide effectiveness, yields and growth. As a result profitability also increases.
Adding lime works by raising the pH levels and also by encouraging the uptake of calcium or calcium-magnesium components. These encourage the plants to absorb fertilizer which results in growth as well as improving the structure and stability of the soil. Lime also aids microbial activity and as an added bonus, it helps to prevent weeds (which like acidic soil).
